Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has taken a bold step toward a smarter future with the launch of the UTC-UX Fusion traffic signal control system. Designed to transform the city's traffic management, this next-generation solution is set to reduce congestion at major intersections by up to 20% and improve overall journey times. With full deployment scheduled for completion by 2026, the system leverages cutting-edge artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, and digital twin technologies to optimize signal timings dynamically.

Hussain Al Banna, CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency at RTA, explained that the new system is tailored to enhance mobility for every road user—from motorists and public transport passengers to pedestrians and cyclists—while also giving priority to emergency services. “Our innovative approach not only anticipates traffic flows through predictive analysis but also uses digital twin simulations to test and perfect signal adjustments before implementation,” Al Banna stated.

A standout feature of the UTC-UX Fusion system is its real-time adaptability. By continuously analyzing live traffic data, the system can adjust signal timings to mitigate congestion and enhance the overall efficiency of Dubai’s road network. It is also built to support future connectivity with Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS/V2X), enabling seamless communication between smart vehicles and traffic signals.

Earlier remarks by Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, underscored the broader potential of AI in urban mobility. He projected that AI-driven solutions could cut travel times by 25% by 2035 and reduce congestion by 30% over the next decade, paving the way for a more fluid and sustainable urban transport ecosystem.

This strategic move reaffirms Dubai’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, setting the stage for a more efficient, responsive, and future-ready transportation network.
