GGI Global Alliance (GGI) held its Expert Group Summit in Dubai from February 12 to 14, drawing professionals from member firms worldwide for a series of technical discussions and networking events, the organisation said.

The annual gathering, traditionally hosted in Europe, was staged in Dubai this year, reflecting the city’s role as a major hub linking Europe, Asia and Africa. The event brought together specialists in tax and advisory services for a programme of presentations, workshops and informal exchanges.

In his welcome address, GGI Founder and Chairman Claudio G. Cocca highlighted Dubai’s connectivity and infrastructure, describing the emirate as an ideal venue for the international meeting.

The summit opened with sessions from the Indirect Taxes Practice Group, featuring speakers from Austria, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates. Topics included UAE value-added tax, EU chain transactions, Austria’s small business scheme and indirect tax investigations in the UK.

The International Tax Practice Group’s Global Tax Summit followed, with presentations from Malta, India, the Netherlands and the United States. Discussions covered trust and foundation structures, substance requirements in international tax, India’s tax framework and strategies for firms seeking to maintain independence amid industry consolidation.

One of the programme’s highlights was a simulated fiscal court case involving around 20 participants representing management, defence counsel, tax auditors and judges.

Alan Rajah, Managing Partner at Lawrence Grant LLP and Global Chair of the International Tax Practice Group, said the event demonstrated the “exceptional expertise” within the network and would help strengthen cooperation among member firms.

Alongside the technical agenda, delegates attended networking events including a dinner at Bab Al Shams and visits to the Museum of the Future and the upper observation levels of the Burj Khalifa.

Organisers said the summit’s strong participation and knowledge exchange underscored its value for members and clients globally.
