Hyderabad Priest Sentenced to Life for Murdering Woman in Extramarital Affair
Court Convicts Temple Priest of Killing Woman in Saroornagar, Dumps Body in Manhole

A court in Hyderabad has sentenced a temple priest to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of a 30-year-old woman with whom he was having an extramarital affair. The shocking crime has stirred widespread concern about domestic violence and extramarital relationships in India.
Details of the Crime:
Ayyagari Venkata Surya Sai Krishna, a priest at the Maisamma temple in Saroornagar, was found guilty of murdering Apsara, a woman from the same locality, in 2023. The motive behind the murder was linked to the woman's demand that he marry her, which he refused.
On June 3, 2023, Krishna and Apsara had a heated argument over her marriage proposal while traveling in a car. The priest, unable to handle the pressure, killed Apsara by smashing her head with a boulder. He then transported her body back to Saroornagar, where he discarded it in a manhole behind the temple where he worked.
Despite initially filing a missing person’s report, the priest's lies were exposed when police reviewed CCTV footage and mobile phone data, which led them directly to Krishna. He later confessed to the crime during questioning.
Court's Verdict and Sentencing:
The Rangareddy district court sentenced Venkata Sai Krishna to life imprisonment for the murder of Apsara. The court also imposed a seven-year sentence for tampering with the evidence and fined him Rs10,000. His conviction came after the Shamshabad police presented compelling evidence, leading to the priest's arrest.
Criminal Law in India:
In India, criminal law deals with offenses that harm individuals or society. The Indian Penal Code (IPC) is the primary statute governing criminal offenses. Murder, as defined under Section 302 of the IPC, carries severe penalties, including life imprisonment or the death penalty, depending on the circumstances.
The conviction of the temple priest emphasizes the legal system’s approach to handling such heinous crimes. In cases of extramarital affairs and domestic disputes, criminal law plays a crucial role in delivering justice to the victims. Criminal lawyers help their clients navigate the complexities of legal proceedings, including filing complaints, gathering evidence, and representing clients in court to ensure fair trials.
The Role of Criminal Lawyers:
In cases like this, criminal lawyers are essential for investigating the charges, filing defenses, and representing the accused or victims in court. They play an instrumental role in ensuring that justice is served, from the filing of a charge to the final verdict. Legal professionals specializing in criminal law understand the nuances of criminal offenses and work diligently to uphold the law in all stages of the judicial process.
