Kuwaits Court Cassation upheld sevenyear prison sentence Kuwaiti

Kuwait's Court of Cassation has upheld a seven-year prison sentence for a Kuwaiti teacher convicted of forging medical leave documents over an eight-year period. Along with the prison term, the court confirmed a KD100,000 (Dh1.19 million) fine and ordered her to repay double the amount of the undeserved wages she had received.

This verdict follows a recent crackdown on a larger network involved in producing fraudulent documents. Authorities have dismantled a four-member gang accused of creating fake medical leave certificates and securing unauthorized approvals from a prominent medical center and the Medical Licensing Department. The group reportedly issued these forged certificates, often without the patient’s presence, in exchange for payment.

Among those arrested were a Kuwaiti citizen, two Iranian nationals, and a Bidoon, all implicated in distributing these falsified certificates. During the investigation, law enforcement, under authorization from the Attorney General, raided the gang’s operational site, seizing tools used for forgery, official seals, and substances suspected to be narcotics.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior emphasized Kuwait’s commitment to fighting corruption and preserving national security, stating that the operation underscores efforts to uphold the integrity of official processes and protect society from illegal activities. The suspects have been turned over to legal authorities, and investigations into the case are ongoing.
