Nine-Member Gang Faces Life Sentence Trial in UAE for Kidnapping, Blackmail
Victim was abducted, filmed naked, and extorted for money; prosecution says crimes posed threat to state security and social peace.

Nine Arab nationals are standing trial in the UAE for allegedly forming an organised gang involved in kidnapping, indecent assault, and blackmail -- crimes that prosecutors say endanger state security and social stability.
The case originated from a report submitted through the Public Prosecution’s digital platform My Safe Society, in which the victim claimed he was abducted, assaulted, and filmed while restrained.
Following the report, the Public Prosecution launched an investigation, collected evidence, and directed the Federal Judicial Enforcement Office to identify and arrest the suspects swiftly. Authorities also seized the tools used in committing the offences.
Investigations revealed that the defendants had formed a criminal organisation that engaged in a series of grave acts threatening public order. The prosecution released images of the accused to the public while concealing their identities.
According to findings, the gang lured the victim to one of their residences, assaulted him, tied his hands, and detained him for a week. They then coerced him into signing debt papers, filmed him naked, and circulated the footage on social media to extort money from his family.
The defendants now face charges punishable by death or life imprisonment under UAE law, as their crimes are deemed a threat to state security.
Dr Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, UAE Attorney General, emphasised that protecting the nation’s security and stability is a top priority, asserting that the Public Prosecution will enforce the law firmly and ensure all those endangering lives or public safety are brought to justice.
