OpenAI has announced that users can now access ChatGPT Search without signing in or creating an account. The update, shared via a post on X (formerly Twitter), aims to make the AI-powered search engine more accessible to all.
Launched in October 2024, ChatGPT Search differs from the standard ChatGPT chatbot by providing real-time, up-to-date information. It retrieves current data on topics such as news, stock prices, and weather updates. Unlike the chatbot, ChatGPT Search includes sources and links in its responses, allowing users to verify information. Users can manually activate a search using the “Search” button below the chat bar. Recent updates have also enhanced its interface, incorporating images and maps for local searches.
By removing the login requirement, OpenAI is positioning ChatGPT Search as a competitive alternative to traditional search engines like Google and Bing. This move enhances accessibility and increases competitive pressure on these established platforms. Additionally, other AI-powered search tools, such as Perplexity, may also be affected as ChatGPT Search expands its reach.
