Rotary’s Enduring Legacy of Service in the UAE and Beyond
Rotary continues to shape civic life in the UAE and beyond, setting a gold standard for ethical leadership and community service.

By Sunil Ambalavelil, Chairman of Kaden Boriss
In a world often defined by competition, division, and short-term gains, the Rotary Club stands out as a global model of community service and humanitarian impact, particularly in the heart of the Gulf. Founded in 1905, Rotary International now spans over 46,000 clubs globally, with more than 1.2 million members united by a shared mission: “Service Above Self.”
In Dubai, Rotary’s contributions are both visible and profound. Local chapters actively lead healthcare drives, support educational scholarships, expand clean water access, and empower underprivileged communities. These efforts align closely with the UAE’s national agenda and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
A landmark achievement is the End Polio Now campaign, through which Rotary has helped immunise over 2.5 billion children worldwide—a feat of leadership and compassion.
As a corporate lawyer in Dubai and Chairman of Kaden Boriss, I have witnessed how Rotary’s work enhances civil society and promotes ethical leadership. At its core, Rotary upholds a unique ethical code—the Four-Way Test—which asks whether actions are truthful, fair, build goodwill, and benefit all concerned. These guiding principles resonate deeply within the domains of corporate governance, legal ethics, and social responsibility.
As someone deeply invested in legal development across the region, I view Rotary as a benchmark in building a resilient, rights-based society. For professionals in law, business, or public service, engaging with Rotary is not just a privilege—it is a moral and civic responsibility. It’s a call to use our platforms for meaningful, sustainable change.
