A Tesla Cybertruck explosion outside the entrance of the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas has left one person dead and seven others injured, authorities confirmed on Wednesday.
The electric truck arrived at the hotel's glass entrance before a massive explosion occurred, followed by smaller blasts resembling fireworks. Video footage shows the stainless steel vehicle bursting into flames.
Las Vegas Sheriff Kevin McMahill stated, "One deceased individual was found inside the Cybertruck," while seven others sustained minor injuries.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk commented on the incident via X, saying, "The whole Tesla senior team is investigating this matter right now. We've never seen anything like this." Musk, a supporter of President-elect Donald Trump, promised updates as the investigation unfolds.
President Joe Biden was briefed on the explosion and has directed federal agencies to provide assistance as needed.
Sheriff McMahill referenced a separate truck-ramming attack in New Orleans earlier the same day, which claimed 15 lives. While no direct connection between the two events has been established, McMahill assured residents that precautions are being taken to ensure community safety.
Impact
The explosion, occurring on New Year’s Day, has raised concerns about public safety and vehicle security. Investigations continue as authorities and Tesla aim to uncover the cause of the blast.
