The Dubai Misdemeanours Court has sentenced an Asian national to two years in prison, followed by deportation, and imposed a fine of Dhs130,000 after he was convicted of stealing 18 air conditioners from a villa in Al Muhaisnah.

The case began when a Gulf national reported that all 18 air conditioning units installed on the villa’s roof had vanished. He discovered the theft while inspecting the property, which had been closed due to violations of rental conditions and its misuse as shared accommodation. Upon arrival, he found the outer door damaged and the premises in disarray.

During the investigation, a police officer stated that evidence collected from the scene indicated the involvement of a man already serving a sentence for a similar crime. A forensic examination later confirmed the suspect’s fingerprint on one of the AC unit covers.

When questioned, the suspect admitted to the theft as well as to committing similar offences, adding that he had been living illegally in the country after entering as an infiltrator.
