In a recent legal clarification, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has stated that seven companies sanctioned by the United States in connection with Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are not operating within the country and hold no valid commercial licences.

This comes as part of the latest news regarding international sanctions and regional enforcement efforts.

On January 7, 2025, the US Treasury imposed sanctions under its Sudan sanctions programme on the following UAE-registered entities:

  • Capital Tap Holding LLC
  • Capital Tap Management Consultancies LLC
  • Capital Tap General Trading LLC
  • Creative Python LLC
  • Al Zumoroud and Al Yaqoot Gold & Jewellers LLC
  • Al Jil Al Qadem General Trading LLC
  • Horizon Advanced Solutions General Trading LLC

Following the announcement, the UAE Ministry of Justice launched its own legal investigation, seeking cooperation and further information from US authorities.

In an official statement issued Friday, the Ministry of Justice confirmed that none of the sanctioned companies currently:

  • Hold an active business licence in the UAE
  • Conduct commercial operations in the UAE

Relevant UAE authorities continue to monitor any suspicious activity as per applicable UAE laws, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to upholding international legal standards.

Additionally, the US government imposed sanctions on RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, also known as Hemedti, barring him and his family from entering the United States and freezing assets under US jurisdiction. The Treasury Department stated:

“As the overall commander of the RSF, Hemedti bears command responsibility for the abhorrent and illegal actions of his forces.”

These developments form part of broader legal measures and international diplomatic efforts to address the ongoing Sudanese conflict.
