Sharjah Court Punishes Bid to Export Rented Car Using Forged Papers
Vehicle flagged missing after renter failed to return it, triggering probe that uncovered document tampering and export attempt.
A 36-year-old Arab man has been sentenced to six months in jail, fined Dh5,000 and ordered to be deported after a court in Sharjah found him guilty of forging documents in an attempt to export a rented vehicle out of the country.
The accused, identified as M.A., was convicted after it was established that he had tampered with the car’s documents and arranged for it to be transported to a Dubai port with the intention of shipping it abroad.
The case surfaced when a car rental company reported the vehicle missing after the man failed to return it on time and became unreachable, raising suspicions of deliberate misconduct.
According to case details, the company tracked the vehicle through a GPS system, leading authorities to a truck driver who was found in possession of the car. The driver told investigators that he had been hired by M.A. to transport the vehicle to a port for export.
Further scrutiny of the vehicle’s documents revealed clear discrepancies and signs of tampering, indicating an attempt to move the car out of the country using forged paperwork.
The complainant also stated that when contacted, the accused falsely claimed the vehicle was still in his possession and that there were no issues — assertions later disproved by evidence.
Authorities were alerted, prompting an investigation that led to the man’s arrest and referral to court.
During the trial, M.A. denied the charges, insisting he had no arrangement with the truck driver to transport the vehicle. However, the court relied on GPS tracking data, witness testimony and documentary evidence to establish intent, ultimately finding him guilty.
