The UAE’s National Media Office (NMO) has issued a stern reminder to social media users, urging them to uphold national values and adhere to ethical and legal responsibilities when engaging online. The office cautioned against any digital activity that disrespects national symbols, public figures, or friendly nations, emphasizing that violations could lead to strict legal consequences.

Safeguarding the UAE’s Digital Reputation

Highlighting the importance of responsible social media behavior, the NMO reiterated that every individual plays a role in preserving the country’s positive image. The office cited President Sheikh Mohamed’s statement, which underscores that all citizens act as ambassadors of the UAE, reflecting the nation’s identity through their online interactions.

Zero Tolerance for Misinformation and Hate Speech

The statement also warned against sharing misleading information, hate speech, or defamatory content, whether explicitly or implicitly. Such actions not only violate the law but also threaten the UAE’s vision of a respectful and inclusive digital environment. The NMO assured that relevant authorities are actively monitoring social media platforms and will take necessary action against offenders.

Guidelines for Emirati Social Media Conduct

Reaffirming the leadership’s vision, the NMO outlined key principles for responsible online engagement, drawing from the directives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. These guidelines include:

  • Reflecting National Wisdom and Ethics: Embodying the values of the UAE’s Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed.

  • Demonstrating Knowledge and Culture: Promoting the UAE’s rich heritage and intellectual contributions.

  • Avoiding Insults and Offensive Language: Engaging in constructive discussions with respect and diplomacy.

  • Fostering Positive Digital Interaction: Encouraging meaningful dialogue and respectful engagement with diverse cultures.

Call for Responsible Social Media Usage

The NMO urged individuals to be mindful of their digital footprint, aligning their online behavior with the UAE’s ethical and cultural standards. It encouraged citizens to report any offensive or non-compliant content through official channels, reinforcing a credible and respectful digital space.

By adhering to these guidelines, social media users can contribute to a harmonious online community that reflects the UAE’s values of tolerance, respect, and coexistence.
