UAE to Clear 4 Black Points for Accident-Free Driving on First School Day
Drivers who maintain a clean record on the day will have 4 black points deducted from their licence by September 15.

Motorists in the UAE can have four black points removed from their driving licence by avoiding accidents and adhering to traffic rules on what is expected to be the busiest first day of the school year -- Monday, August 25.
The Federal Traffic Council on Monday announced the launch of its annual Accident-Free Day campaign, aimed at promoting safe driving as more than one million pupils return to classrooms nationwide.
Drivers who maintain a clean record on the day will have four black points deducted from their licence by September 15.
The initiative underscores the importance of key safety measures such as wearing seatbelts, observing speed limits, maintaining safe distances between vehicles, and avoiding distractions like mobile phone use. More than 300,000 drivers registered for the campaign last year.
Brigadier Engineer Hussein Al Harthi, chairman of the Federal Traffic Council at the Ministry of Interior, said the campaign forms part of broader efforts to enhance road safety amid growing traffic congestion due to the country’s population increase.
“We aim to boost traffic safety by encouraging positive driver behaviour,” Brig Al Harthi said. “Launching the campaign on the first day of school is crucial, as the priority is pupil safety.”
Motorists can participate by logging into the Ministry of Interior’s website and signing the pledge.
Understanding Black Points
Black points are penalties for serious traffic violations, with the number depending on the severity of the offence. Accumulating 24 black points within a 12-month period leads to licence suspension, with the duration determined by the nature of the infractions. Penalties under the UAE’s 143 federal traffic laws include fines, vehicle confiscation, and licence suspension. Impounded vehicles also incur a Dh100 daily release fee.
