UAE Unveils Hotline to Report Drug Crimes; Informants Eligible For Financial Rewards
Authorities block 2,297 drug-linked websites as UAE rolls out school curriculum reforms; financial incentives to strengthen national anti-narcotics drive
The UAE has intensified its anti-narcotics campaign with the launch of a confidential hotline to report drug-related offences, offering financial rewards to informants whose information leads to the arrest of traffickers or disrupts smuggling attempts. The announcement was made by the National Anti-Narcotics Authority (Nana) during the UAE Government Annual Meetings 2025 in Abu Dhabi.
Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad Al Nahyan, Chairman of Nana, said the hotline will operate through a secure and confidential information-sharing system, aimed at strengthening cooperation between the public and law-enforcement agencies. He added that the initiative forms part of a broader national strategy to enhance drug prevention and raise public awareness about the dangers of narcotics, especially among youth.
Addressing the session titled National Anti-Narcotics Efforts, Sheikh Zayed highlighted the UAE’s achievements in drug control at both domestic and international levels. He said Nana was established to unite the efforts of federal and local authorities, streamline coordination, and ensure the community plays a core role in combating drug threats.
As part of the national strategy, the UAE will introduce a new school subject titled Security and Safety into the primary and secondary curricula. The course aims to educate students on avoiding risky behaviours, with a dedicated focus at secondary level on drug awareness.
Other initiatives announced include the National Activities Programme, which will engage youth and wider society through sports, cultural activities, and hobby-based clubs. Specialised centres will operate within community spaces such as playgrounds and parks to encourage healthy and constructive pastimes.
Sheikh Zayed further noted that 2,297 websites and social media accounts promoting drugs or mind-altering substances have been identified and blocked as the country intensifies digital monitoring to counter modern online trafficking methods.
On the international front, the UAE has expanded cooperation with 24 countries, contributing to the seizure of significant quantities of narcotics abroad. These partnerships, he said, reinforce the UAE’s commitment to supporting global security and combating transnational drug networks.
Nana will continue to roll out strategic initiatives centred on prevention, awareness, treatment, and rehabilitation, with the overarching goal of developing an integrated national ecosystem that shields society from the harms of narcotics.
