US District Judge Dismisses Sexual Abuse Lawsuit Against OpenAI Founder Altman
OpenAI chief executive’s sister accused him of abuse spanning several years, allegations he denies.
Sam Altman on Tuesday won the dismissal of a civil lawsuit filed by his sister, who accused the OpenAI co-founder and chief executive of repeated sexual abuse more than two decades ago. He denies the allegations.
In dismissing Annie Altman’s lawsuit, US District Judge Zachary Bluestone said she had refused to attend an independent medical examination despite warnings that failure to do so would result in the case being dismissed.
Laura Politi, a lawyer for Annie Altman, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Santos Perez, who previously represented Annie Altman in the case before withdrawing this month, said in a statement: “I am no longer authorised to comment on this case but I continue to believe in Annie.”
Sam Altman became one of the most prominent figures in the artificial intelligence boom after the launch of the ChatGPT chatbot in 2022. Annie Altman filed the lawsuit in a federal court in St Louis, Missouri, in January 2025.
She accused her brother of sexually abusing and raping her between 1997 and 2006 at the family home in Clayton, a suburb of St Louis. She alleged that the abuse began when she was three and he was 12, and that the final incidents occurred when Sam Altman was an adult. He is now 41.
The Altman family has said Annie Altman faces mental health challenges and has received financial support. Sam Altman has said she began accusing him of sexual abuse on social media after the family rejected her demands for additional funds.
