The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court has ordered a man to pay Dhs30,000 in compensation for publicly defaming another individual and damaging his company’s reputation.

Court records show that the defendant falsely claimed the plaintiff’s company was defective, intending to harm his reputation among colleagues. The plaintiff subsequently filed a lawsuit seeking Dhs350,000 in compensation for material and moral damages, along with court fees and legal costs.

Following a criminal case and conviction related to the incident, the plaintiff pursued civil action for the harm caused. The court noted that under Articles 292 and 293(1) of the Civil Transactions Law, anyone who causes damage to another person is required to provide compensation.

It concluded that the defendant’s actions caused the plaintiff moral harm, including distress and damage to his honour, and therefore ordered the payment of Dhs30,000 as compensation.
