A 23-year-old Gulf national has been fined Dh10,000 and banned from driving for three months after being convicted of driving under the influence of psychotropic substances, travelling against traffic, and possessing drugs for personal use.

The case came to light when a police patrol intercepted a vehicle moving in the wrong direction behind a hospital in Al Khawaneej. Officers observed that the driver appeared to be in an abnormal state.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of syringes, four capsules classified as psychotropic substances, another pill, and traces of methamphetamine found on a plastic bag and paper wrapping, along with other items associated with drug use.

Forensic analysis confirmed that the seized materials fell within controlled psychotropic categories. Blood and urine tests also detected the presence of narcotic substances. During questioning, the defendant admitted to consuming drugs, driving under their influence, and possessing the substances.

In court, he acknowledged the consumption charge but denied the remaining offences, seeking leniency on account of his age. The court ruled that the offences formed part of a single course of conduct and were therefore inseparable, while granting limited clemency in view of the circumstances.

Alongside the fine and driving ban, the court ordered the confiscation of all seized items. Records indicate that the defendant has paid the fine and was previously detained in connection with the case before being released by the prosecution. He has also been referred to the relevant authorities for periodic testing and rehabilitation in line with the law.
