The UAE Ministry of Interior has reported over 1,000 cases of drivers fleeing traffic police in 2024—a sharp reminder of the importance of obeying traffic laws and respecting law enforcement.

According to official data, 1,023 incidents of drivers evading police were documented across the Emirates. Sharjah led with 315 cases, followed by Dubai (241), Abu Dhabi (234), Ajman (113), Ras Al Khaimah (83), Umm Al Quwain (21), and Fujairah (16).

In total, 11,254 violations were also recorded for disobeying police instructions, reinforcing the need for stronger adherence to UAE legal regulations.

Legal Penalties Under UAE Traffic Law:

  • Fleeing from traffic police:
    Dh800 fine
    12 black points
    30-day vehicle impoundment

  • Disobeying officer instructions:
    Dh400 fine
    4 black points

  • Refusing to give name/address:
    Dh500 fine

A senior police official emphasized that such actions are not just traffic infractions, but violations of public order. Officers must be on duty, in uniform, and in official patrol vehicles for the fleeing charge to apply—ensuring that drivers recognize legitimate authority.

“It’s not about the fine. It’s about upholding the law and ensuring safety for all road users,” the official noted.
